Yes, It Matters
Dr. Jed N. Snyder, Pastor –President, Jesus Every Day Ministries, Inc.
Some folks have taught that it really does not matter if Jesus Christ rose from the dead or not. Some even think that the resurrection story is simply a heartwarming legend. But the resurrection does matter.
If Jesus did not arise, He was a liar. If He deliberately misled His disciples, he was a deceiver. If He persuaded His disciples to fake His death, burial and resurrection He was the worst charlatan imaginable. If His resurrection did not happen, all the church buildings were built on a fairy tale. All the truths of the Ten Commandments are at best only utilitarian, not morally formative. Those who believe in Jesus Christ are following a fantasy.
But Jesus Christ did rise from the dead. Here is how John described the hours after this momentous event.
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” John 20:19-23
Jesus did die for our sins. He did arise from the dead. He is alive. His Word, the Bible, is true. Holy living is the highest good for people now. Helping others know these truths is a fabulous commission
Happy knowing that it matters that Jesus Christ arose.
