Women’s Day, First Nazareth Baptist Church
Through our annual Women’s Day activities, First Nazareth Baptist Church has been celebrating its female congregants for 54 years. During this celebration the women of the church engage in various activities which promote unity and sisterhood and embodies God’s love. We also utilize this season as an additional opportunity to conduct outreach in our community.
Throughout the years we have held community health fairs and business fairs and have supported numerous charitable organizations. In recent years we have embraced the women of Hannah House by fellowshipping with them, donating new undergarments to each resident, and cleaned and organized their residence. We also treated them to dinner and a movie while watching their children and engaging them in arts and crafts.
One of our more recent projects is a partnership with St. Lawrence Place in which we provide a family friendly carnival for their residents. We provide food, ice cream and popcorn and numerous activities for the children, including a bounce house. We held this carnival on April 27, 2019. In addition, this year we were moved by the events which led to residents of Allen Benedict Court being displaced. As a result, we are collecting household cleaning supplies to donate to these families.
Finally, our food pantry serves 40-60 families from the community each week and has an ongoing need for donations. In support of our food pantry, we are also collecting donations of non-perishable food items throughout the month of May.
Our Nazzys awards luncheon will be held on May 4, 2019. During this time, we will recognize our female congregants who have made a significant impact in the community. Proceeds from this event will benefit the food pantry and our Mary B Scott Women’s Empowerment scholarship, which we award to women in our church who are attending college or graduate school. On May 12 we will announce the winners during our 11:00 am worship service.
Our Women’s Day culmination worship services will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 7:45 and 11:00 am services. Through each of our outreach activities we hope to perpetuate the First Nazareth Baptist Church Women’s Day 2019 theme of “Women on the Move: Embracing Fresh Opportunities”. Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6
