Wesley Foundation Launches Ruby Jubilee with 40 Fest Block Party

Orangeburg – The Orangeburg Wesley Foundation will launch its Ruby Jubilee series of events to celebrate its 40th anniversary with a block party entitled 40 Fest on Saturday, April 18th at the corner of Amelia and Boulevard Streets between Trinity United Methodist Church and New Mt. Zion AME Church.

The Ruby Jubilee series of events will begin with the 40 Fest block party, which will include local entertainers, food and product vendors, and a jump castle for the kids.  The event will begin at 12 Noon and end at 6 pm. Some of the entertainers will include recording artist James Patterson, SC State University Sapphire Pom Squad, the Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School Glorious Melodic Voices, and South Carolina State Mascot, “Spike.”

The Orangeburg Wesley Foundation is an ecumenical campus ministry of the South Carolina United Methodist Church, which opened its doors to students from the basement of Trinity United Methodist Church in 1975.

The campus ministry leaders are proud that the foundation has served students and the community for 40 years and look forward to serving in more and better ways in the future, said Rev. Connie Barnes, foundation director and campus minister.

“The foundation has experienced its ups and downs over the years, but has been able to sustain itself and serve students and the community through it all,” Rev. Barnes said. “So, we are proud to say that after 40 years, we’re still here, that we have a vision and are making plans for a more vibrant ministry that serves more people at higher levels. We’re inviting the community to come and help us celebrate our past, present and future.”

The 40 Fest organizers are still seeking entertainers and vendors for 40 Fest. Contact any foundation board member or Rev. Barnes at (843) 902-7900 or nelsoncbarnes25@yahoo.com.
