Columbia, S.C. – BB&T presented United Way of the Midlands with a gift of $100,000 to support its relief efforts resulting from the devastating rain and resulting floods affecting Columbia and surrounding areas.
“We’ve always been able to count on BB&T to help our community in times of need,” said Mac Bennett, President and CEO of United Way. “It is so great to see the leadership role that they have taken on by setting an example in response to this disaster. We can’t thank them enough for their generous support.”
United Way of the Midlands is partnering with several agencies, the government and the faith community to connect people affected to federal and community resources quickly and organize volunteer activities for those wishing to lend a hand. A relief fund has been set up to aid the immediate response and long-term recovery efforts.
With BB&T’s donation, United Way has already raised over $325,000. All funds raised will be directed to local organizations working to assist individuals and families affected by this crisis. United Way will underwrite all administrative costs associated with dispersing these funds, and 100% of funds received will go directly to supporting flood recovery efforts.
“All of us at BB&T are keeping our South Carolina friends and neighbors in our thoughts and prayers as the state continues to work through the aftermath of this devastating flood,” said Mike Brenan, BB&T South Carolina Regional President. “While everyone here has been affected in some capacity, it’s truly humbling to see the citizens of South Carolina, as well as those from other states, working together to help those who have lost so very much. We at BB&T are pleased to announce this donation to support the United Way of Midlands in its efforts to assist the storm victims in their recovery.”
