The First Tee of Columbia Appreciation Celebration

Wednesday, May 14, 2014
From 5:30pm-7:00pm
At the James E. Clyburn Golf Center
2091 Slighs Avenue
Columbia, South Carolina 29201

Please join The First Tee of Columbia Advisory Board as we celebrate and show appreciation for all of our sponsors, donors and volunteers and all they do to help us change young people’s lives through the game of golf.

The First Tee of Columbia is Columbia’s local chapter of the international First Tee organization, and operates out of the James Clyburn Golf Center.  For those of you unfamiliar with the First Tee, the First Tee is a youth developmental organization that introduces the game of golf and its inherent values to young people.  Using in-school and after-school programs, The First Tee reinforces values like integrity, respect and perseverance through the game of golf.

And it works!

A recent four-year study of the First Tee revealed some amazing statistics.  73% of First Tee participants remain from Year 1 to Year 4.  That statistic alone is staggering considering other youth organizations average dropout rates near 50% within the first year.  The same study revealed much more data that illustrates how the First Tee is able to transfer valuable skills from the golf course to the lives of young people.

The First Tee of Columbia’s Appreciation Reception is set for Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the James Clyburn Golf Center (2091 Slighs Avenue, Columbia, South Carolina).  During the May 14th function, our local chapter will thank its many past volunteers and recognize the accomplishments of its current and past students.  The event will also feature some entertainment from local pros who will demonstrate some of their skills for the crowd.

The First Tee Columbia became an official Chapter of The First Tee in October 2004, through the vision of City of Columbia officials exploring opportunities to bring new programming to Columbia’s youth. The City of Columbia Golf Center (now The James Clyburn Golf Center) was named the official home of The First Tee Columbia and has served thousands of kids through the years. Over the years, participants have enjoyed much success playing golf events throughout the Southeast as well as being involved with charitable organizations through area Church, College and Civic groups. Some have gone on to be successful Collegiate Student/ Athletes and all have left the program more prepared to be successful young adults and strong contributors to their communities.

Please consider attending and supporting The First Tee of Columbia and this event on May 14th.
