Springtime & Shaw Celebrates Women’s History Month
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Philharmonic presents the 5th concert of the 2018/2019 Masterworks Series Saturday, March 16, featuring pieces by Caroline Shaw, Beethoven, and Mozart.
To celebrate Women’s History Month, the South Carolina Philharmonic is partnering with Women’s Rights Empowerment Network (WREN), collaborating on a “Buy One, Give One” ticket campaign. With every ticket purchase through this portal, WREN will pass along a free ticket to a woman or girl who would otherwise be unable to attend.
From WREN: “Representation matters. And when we are able to increase the visibility of prominent female performers, we are able to strengthen the ability of women to see themselves as musicians, visionaries, and leaders.”
Springtime & Shaw opens with Ent’racte, a piece composed by Pulitzer Prize award winning musician, Caroline Shaw. While Shaw is well known in the classical community, she also has produced for pop artists including Kanye West. Wrapping up the concert is Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D featuring Tessa Lark.
The program for Springtime & Shaw:
MOZART Symphony No. 36 “Linz”
BEETHOVEN Violin Concerto in D, Op. 61
Tessa Lark, violin
Tickets are on sale at The Koger Center Box Office now through March 16, 2019. For a full listing of the 2018/2019 season, click here.
