Sixth Golfing with the Phil tees off Sept. 15

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Philharmonic hopes the greens at the sixth annual Golfing with the Phil – Monday, Sept. 15, 2014 at The Members Club at Woodcreek in Elgin – bring in some green to support its programs.

Teams of four from across the Midlands can raise money for the S.C. Phil at the now-established event, presented by grand sponsor Terminix. Golfing with the Phil raised a record $27,000 to support the orchestra last year.

Event co-chairs Tom Fortson and Mike Kelly welcome McDaniels Automotive Group as the gold sponsor this year, and BB&T Boyle-Vaughan Insurance and Elliott Davis as returning silver sponsors.

The captain’s choice tournament begins with a 12:15 p.m. shotgun start, but golfers may register and enjoy lunch from Doc’s BBQ starting at 11 a.m. Additional food from of Blue Marlin Steaks & Seafood and Pawley’s Front Porch will be available on the course, and free beer from Budweiser will be available throughout the day. The Cigar Bar will be on hand catering to cigar enthusiasts. A post-round dinner is provided by 116 Espresso & Wine Bar at the closing awards ceremony.

“Our goal is to present a first-class event – from the venue, food, and entertainment to friendly competition – that pleases our generous sponsors and patrons and makes them look forward to this year after year. And we do our part to financially support the Philharmonic, a critical part our community’s foundation,” Fortson said.

Lunch, dinner, range balls, 18 holes of golf, and a cart are included in the $500 per team entry fee. Register a team and sponsor a hole for $600. Single players may register for $125. Hole sponsorships are available for $150. All proceeds will benefit the S.C. Phil’s educational programs and Masterworks Series. Visit to sign up, or call 803.771.7937.
