Sheriff Leon Lott and County Officials Work Jointly to Permanently Shut Down the Black Pearl Nightclub
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced that the Richland County Sheriff’s Department staff attorney and Richland County Government attorneys have identified a county statute that gives the Sheriff the authority to permanently lock the doors of the Black Pearl Nightclub, 2219 Broad River Road. The Sheriff can has the authority to charge the club owners criminally should they re-open the club.
The County has issued a stop work order detailing that the club is in violation of a County ordinance that govern the setback requirements, primarily the requirement that sexually oriented businesses not operate within 1,000 feet of a residence, church, or school. Currently the Black Pearl does not meet this requirement.
Additionally the Sheriff says that the club is a public nuisance and has been a hotbed for criminal activity, adding that since December of 2016 deputies have responded to some 26 separate incidents of criminal activity at the Broad River Road nightclub.
The Sheriff commended Richland County Council and the Richland County attorney for shutting down the illegal club and for restoring peace in the community for the citizens who live in the area.
