Samsung President Tim Baxter to Deliver SC State University Commencement Address
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – SC State University has tapped Tim Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America, as the keynote address speaker for its May 9 spring 2014 Commencement. The ceremony is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Oliver C. Dawson Stadium on the SC State campus. The processional of graduates will get underway at 6:30 p.m.
SC State University will confer nearly 500 undergraduate and graduate degrees to students in disciplines including education, nuclear engineering, biology, chemistry, business, transportation, speech pathology and audiology, nursing and social work.
Baxter is an industry veteran with more than 25 years of sales, marketing and leadership in consumer electronics. As president of Samsung, Baxter is responsible for the continued growth and success of both consumer and enterprise offerings, as well as customer service, financial operations and human resources. The product categories he oversees include: television, home, audio, digital imaging, home appliances, tablets, personal computers, monitors, printers, signage solutions and memory and storage.
He joined Samsung in 2006 as the executive vice president of sales and marketing for the consumer business division before being promoted to president in January 2009.

Elzey. “He is among the select few of global leaders who are helping to advance communities around the world through technology. We are delighted to welcome him to South Carolina State University to share insight with our scholars, who will one day become leaders in their respective careers.”
Prior to joining Samsung, Baxter spent ten years at Sony Corporation of America, where he rose to become senior vice president of strategic marketing. He led several product marketing divisions and Sony’s Blu-ray business dealings, including the Hollywood studio support negotiations and its cross company launch strategy, advertising, promotions and public relations activities. Baxter also spent 13 years at AT&T and Lucent Technologies, leading marketing, product management and sales for various categories in their residential phone businesses.
Baxter graduated from Roger Williams University with a Bachelor of Science in marketing, and is currently a Board of Trustee for the university. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Consumer Electronics Association.
