COLUMBIA, S.C. – Marybeth Gawrys is the 2021-2022 Richland Two Support Staff Person of the Year. Gawrys currently works as the Student Data Coordinator and Registrar at Lake Carolina Elementary School – Upper Campus.
“It is such an honor to have been chosen by Richland Two as the District Support Staff Person of the Year. I am so grateful and thankful for all of the leadership that has been displayed to me through my years of working in this amazing school district. It has helped me to grow into this special role,” Gawrys said.
Since coming to work for the district 29 years ago, Gawrys has filled a long list of positions that includes being a health room assistant, media assistant, receptionist, teaching assistant and attendance secretary. Lately, Gawrys has been on a winning streak collecting several top awards. The National Association of Educational Office Professionals selected her as its 2021 Olive T. Richie Office Professional of the Year. Prior to winning the national award, Gawrys was named the Richland County and South Carolina Office Professional of the Year for 2020-2021.
Lake Carolina Elementary – Upper principal Jeff Williams nominated Gawrys for the district award noting how she works quietly behind the scenes completing a variety of tasks. “Ms. Gawrys simply sees herself as a humble servant, but without doubt she is extremely important to our district. Each time she is awarded something, she is quick to thank others for their support and share the recognition with them,” said Williams.
According to Williams, in addition to her other duties, Gawrys has led the school’s hospitality committee since the school opened. She helps to ensure military families have a smooth transition as they join the Lake Carolina learning community. She creates innovative measures to support families who connect with the school virtually and assembles care packages to provide and deliver to families.
