Richland One Student Named U.S. Presidential Scholars Candidate
Richland One student Simran L. Mathews has been named as a candidate for the highly prestigious 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The A.C. Flora High School senior was among 560 semifinalists across the nation invited to apply for one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students. Each year, up to 141 students are chosen as Presidential Scholars from among the candidates.
Simran serves as a leader among her peers. She is co-captain of the A.C. Flora Ultimate Frisbee Team, president of the school’s Mock Trial team and captain of Flora’s Model United Nations team. During her junior year, Simran did a six-week chemical engineering research project with a professor at the University of South Carolina.
The Presidential Scholars Program recognizes and honors some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors. Scholars are chosen based on their accomplishments in many areas including academic and artistic success, leadership and involvement in their school and community. They represent excellence in education and the promise of greatness in American’s youth.
