Richland One to Host Clemson University’s Midlands Student Summit

Richland One is partnering with Clemson University to give middle and high school students throughout the Midlands a head start in learning what it takes to prepare for and succeed in college.

Students in seventh through 12th grades in 11 counties – Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda and Sumter – are invited to register for the Midlands Student Summit. The free event, which includes lunch, will be held Saturday, October 5 from 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Lower Richland High School, 2615 Lower Richland Boulevard in Hopkins.

This summit’s goal is to educate, inspire and empower 500 middle and high school students in the Midlands as they learn about college admissions, financial aid options, strategies for academic success in high school, leadership and much more. Sessions for parents/guardians and school administrators will be held throughout the day as well.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who are interested in attending should register by September 16 at the following link:

Students or parents who would like more information or to register a group of 15 or more students should send an email to Matthew Kirk at
