Richland One Student Wins Silver in SkillsUSA National Competition

Travonte Gadson, who attended Richland One’s Heyward Career and Technology Center, won a silver medal for his expertise in construction in the SkillsUSA National Championship in June. Travonte, a graduate of Lower Richland High School, was one of 11 students from South Carolina to receive a medal.

During this competition, more than 6,400 outstanding career and technical education students — all state winners — competed in 103 different trade, technical and leadership contests. Students worked against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations like electronics, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts. Top student winners received gold, silver and bronze medallions.

Driven by employer demand, SkillsUSA is a partnership of education and industry to strengthen the nation’s skilled workforce by ensuring that students possess the skills employers need for millions of positions that go unfilled.
