Richland One School Wins Third Place in Worldwide Competition
A team of fifth-graders from Lewis Greenview Elementary School competed against 60 teams from around the world and won third place in their division in the 2017 Odyssey of the Mind World Finals. The worldwide creative problem-solving competition drew more than 50,000 students, representing 850 teams from the United States, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Russia, China, Poland and many other nations.
The Greenview team (nicknamed the “Time Travelers”) that brought home the third-place trophy include members Kaedin Davenport, Iyanna Griffin, J’Marie Hines, Jamari Scott, Phoenix Brailsford, Jenaya Walker and Jaire Gray. The team is coached by Priscilla Buckson, Althea Houser and Casandra Davenport.
Lewis Greenview also was selected to represent South Carolina in the parade ceremony at the event. Team members designed and constructed a float that symbolized their proud state and Richland One.
In all, Richland One had five teams that qualified and competed in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals held May 24-27 at Michigan State University in East Lansing. The district extends its congratulations to teams from C.A. Johnson High and Brockman Elementary schools who also performed exceptionally well.
