Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott Receives Prestigious Award

The Greater Columbia Community Relations Council held their annual Columbia Luncheon Club meeting recently at the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce. During this luncheon, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott was presented with the Colonel Ordie P. Taylor Humanitarian Award. This award is presented to an individual who truly exemplifies the values and purpose of the Columbia Luncheon Club, which is to help others, value and promote racial, cultural and religious diversity and understanding, and ultimately encourage good will among all people.
Sheriff Leon Lott was honored to receive this award and takes great pride in having a close relationship with the Greater Columbia Community Relations Council, Columbia Luncheon Club members, and the community which he serves. The Sheriff has had to make tough decisions throughout his 19-year history as Sheriff of Richland County, and with 40-years as a cop. During his tenure as the Sheriff, it has and will always be his policy to do what is ethically, morally, and legally right no matter how popular that decision may be. In keeping with the mission of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Leon Lott is committed to serving our community and improving the quality of life for ALL citizens. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that through a passion for service, integrity, accountability and professionalism, he will continue to work hard not only to provide excellence in law enforcement services, but to reduce crime, the fear of crime, and to bring our community closer together as we continue to build Unity in the Community; together we can make Richland County a better place to work, live, and play.
The Greater Columbia Community Relations Council is an organization known for advocating on behalf of all Midlands residents, with the desire to help citizens achieve good will, racial understanding, frank dialogue, and tolerance. Sheriff Leon Lott is proud of the efforts of the Columbia Luncheon Club, his deputies and community members who work so hard to contribute to the betterment of our great county of Richland .
