Rev. Al Sharpton, Keynote Speaker for Benedict College Annual Alumni Banquet

Columbia, SC —Rev. Al Sharpton, President & CEO National Action Network and Host of PoliticsNation on MSNBC, will be the keynote speaker at the Benedict College Annual Alumni Banquet on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. The banquet will be held at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel located at 2100 Bush River Road, Columbia, South Carolina, SC. Tickets are currently on sale at $70 per person. Ms. Sheryl Underwood, Co-Host of The Talk on CBS, will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies for the event.

Rev. Al Sharpton serves as the host of “PoliticsNation,” which airs from 6:00-7:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. The show is so popular it broke MSNBC ratings history with the highest viewership of any show at 6:00 p.m. since the network’s inception.

Rev. Sharpton also hosts a nationally syndicated radio show “Keepin it Real” that is heard daily all over the country as well as two weekend radio shows that air in markets within the U.S.  Rev. Sharpton delivers live remarks at NAN’s weekly Saturday Rally at NAN’s Harlem headquarters the “House of Justice” that is broadcast live on NAN’s each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

With over 40 years of experience as a community leader, politician, minister, and advocate, the Rev. Al Sharpton is one of America’s most-renowned civil rights leaders. Rev. Sharpton’s highly visible career began at the tender age of four when he preached his first sermon.

A successful civil rights career soon followed, helping Rev. Sharpton hold such notable positions as the Youth Director of New York’s Operation Breadbasket, Director of Ministers for National Rainbow Push coalition, and founder of his own broad-based progressive civil rights organization, the National Action Network (NAN), one of the leading civil rights organizations in the world.  Since its inception in 1991, NAN has expanded to encompass chapters throughout the United States and maintain important regional offices in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, GA, Detroit, MI, Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, Las Vegas, NV, and Los Angeles, CA.

He resides in New York and has two daughters, Dominique and Ashley.
