Rain, Rain, Go Away
Dr. Jed N Snyder
We here in South Carolina have just experienced an epic rain episode. Some probably understand the Biblical flood of Noah’s day a little better. I was asked to give a ride from work to home for a man who fellowships with our church. There were so many detours with cars submerged and highways (even interstates) flooded that we had a 15-20 minute drive turn into nearly an hour on wet highways with a constant downpour of rain.
By this rain I am reminded that we are tiny little beings in the big scheme of the world, but God loves us enough that He precious Son became one of us to redeem us from our sins.
Furthermore, I am reminded that people need people. Emergency and police vehicles were moving from place to place helping the stranded and those suffering from too much rain.
I am also gratified that organizations such as the Salvation Army, the Red Cross and many other often Christian organizations spend their time and resources to help those in need. These folks are seeking to live by the principles that the Apostle John wrote about in this verse.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. John 13:34
I am reminded of the popular expression, “pay it forward”. While it may not have been based upon the “Golden Rule” it is consistent with it. “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12
While few do good so that good will be done, it is true that doing good often encourages others to do good as well.
Happy allowing the rain to be a good reminder.
