Maitland, Florida – Since 1995, Publix Super Markets, Inc. has worked alongside the March of Dimes towards their mission for stronger, healthier babies. During those 20 years, Publix customers and associates have raised an incredible $51 million to help give all babies a healthier start.
In that time, March of Dimes has seen great success, including in 2000, when the Folic Acid Campaign leads to a sharp decline in neural tube defects, in 2006, The PREEMIE Act speeds development of prevention strategies for preterm labor and birth, in 2008, all states require screening of newborns for 21 or more serious but treatable conditions, in 2012, the launch of the Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait® campaign to ensure that more babies get at least 39 weeks, and in 2013, the Prematurity Campaign pays off in a 15-year low in the premature birth rate.
To support more breakthroughs for babies, the grocery giant will ask its customers to join them in their annual fundraising drive from April 6-26. The register campaign coincides with March for Babies, the March of Dimes signature event, which occurs on April 25 in most areas. Associates will sell the cutouts at the checkout and ask customers to sign their name or the name of a baby they love.
“Our customers and associates trust us to support organizations and programs that make a difference in the communities in which we live and work,” said Maria Brous, Publix director of media and community relations. “We are very proud of our 20-year history with the March of Dimes, and supporting healthier moms and stronger babies is an extension of who we are.”
Publix is the #2 March for Babies Team in the country. As one of the 10 largest-volume supermarket chains in the United States with over 174,500 employees in 1,096 locations in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
“Publix is one of our most valued partners, and their commitment to the community is matched by their associates’ enthusiasm for this campaign. We are grateful to have the support of Publix, and their associates and customers,” said Julie Laird, Regional Vice President, March of Dimes. “The dollars they raise are vital to continuing the lifesaving research, advocacy, and education.”
