(West Columbia SC.) – Continuing with our rotating arts program featuring local photographers and artists, Columbia Metropolitan Airport is pleased to announce the installation of a photography exhibit by John Powell.

The exhibit is on display in the connector of the terminal leading to the departure gates. A native South Carolinian, John has worked full-time as a photographer for the last ten years basing his business, Blue Collar Studio, in Columbia.

Photographs chosen for the exhibit highlight South Carolina, from the coast to the mountains, with special emphasis on the diversity of scenes found in the capital city. The old Adluh warehouse and former Workshop Theater in Columbia are images which no longer can be captured as progress has changed these places forever.

Timeless photographs also include the Rockville Presbyterian Church near Charleston, Caesars Head overlook in Cleveland, snowfall at USC’s Horseshoe and the historic State House in Columbia.

John’s body of work is a unique view of places familiar to those native to the area. For visitors new to the state and passing through the airport, the work may be a surprising collection for those less familiar with South Carolina.
