Peace from Jesus Christ
Dr. Jed N. Snyder, Pastor
John 14:27; Isaiah 26:3-4
There were nine of us. We were being raised by our father in South America as “mks” – missionary kids. Our clothes usually came from what was known as “a missionary barrel.” These hand-me-down clothes often did not fit properly and were usually mismatched. Our father left us at a boarding school for missionary kids as he went to a tribal group to tell them the joyful news that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save them from their sins. We were deeply loved despite the outward circumstances. We accepted that God had called our Dad to tell many about salvation and we were “proud” that he was doing so.
Nevertheless, there were many lonely times and many times that I struggled with the often-illusive idea of inner peace. These Bible verses came repeatedly to my young mind in those days.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. 4Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:3-4
During one of those years, I adopted Isaiah 40:31 as my “life verse.” I strongly recommend it to you, if you haven’t already selected one for yourself. Here is what it says. …but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
It may be hard to imagine a life at peace. With God as your Lord and his Holy Spirit living in you, you may soon forget what a life without peace is like.
Happy living in the peace of Jesus Christ.
