One Pathway to God’s Favor
By Jed N. Snyder, President, Jesus Every Day Ministries, Inc.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9
The word “peacemaker” carries the idea of harmonizing, bringing peace in the sense of drawing two or more parties out of danger. This peace, at its base, is nearly synonymous with salvation because it is the spiritual bringing of the sinner to terms with God. Peace with God is prior to the peace of God and both aspects of peace are prior to having real peace on earth among mankind. It is that inner sense that things are “OK” between us and God that forms the foundation upon which we can act in a kindly and humble fashion toward others. Indeed love, (the desire for and pursuit of good for the one whom we love) is necessary for real peace to take hold and grow between people. As we grow to love God more, we can grow to love those whom He has created more. When we learn to love we are able to manage the differences that create dissension. This differences to not flair up into fighting of any kind if we truly love the other person.
Most of us want God to look in favor upon us. One pathway toward achieving this is that of trying to help two or more factions make peace. Forgiveness, renewed kindness and tenderheartedness will be necessary as we pursue peace. If we are forgiving and if we help others forgive each other, the path to peace become more open. Forgiveness is much more than just being willing to overlook something, it is a willingness to accept the pain, the difficulty and allow the other person to go free. That is painful and costly but worth the cost so we can be at peace and become peacemakers.
Happy being a peacemaker.
