Pastor Darrell Jackson: They Recognized That It Was Jesus
Mark 6:53-56 (NIV)
When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there. As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went–into villages, towns or countryside–they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed. Mark 6:53-56 (NIV)
They Recognized That It Was Jesus
The disciples had seen Jesus perform miracles before, but somehow they had some doubt that this man, who was human but also Divine, was the Son of God. Now remember, Jesus had just fed some 5,000 with a lad’s lunch. Isn’t it strange that you can “hang with someone, call him your BFF, and yet not understand who he is?” The disciples closest to Jesus were yet without a full understanding of why Jesus came to earth. They had doubts as to his true identity. This teaches us that everything is not always as it appears.
But, there were those who recognized that this was Jesus – the One who came to teach, preach, and to heal, the One talked about in the social media of that time, the Anointed One, the Holy One! People from everywhere ran to Jesus carrying the sick, hoping to touch His robe – believing, knowing, and recognizing that Jesus was among them. All who touched Him were healed! What a Miracle Worker!
