Feb. 3 and 4: Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital Annual B106.7 Radiothon

Save the date for the 14th Annual B106.7 Radiothon for Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. The Colonial Life phone bank will be open Tuesday, Feb. 3 and Wednesday, Feb. 4. You will laugh, cry and smile as you learn more about the miracle children and their families who are helped by your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Feb. 4:  Women and Heart Health Seminar

Heart disease symptoms in women often are under-reported or undiagnosed. Learn about women’s risk of heart disease and ways to prevent it. Presented by Meghan Businaro, DO, cardiologist with Palmetto Heart, this free seminar will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4, 12-1 p.m., at Palmetto Health Baptist auditorium, 1501 Sumter St. To register, call 803-296-CARE (2273).

Feb. 5:  Free Diabetes and Prostate Cancer Screenings:

Palmetto Health will offer free diabetes screenings Thursday, Feb. 5, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., Office of Community Health. To find out if you qualify or to register, call 803-296-CARE (2273).

Feb. 7:  Palmetto Health and YMCA of Columbia Offer CPR and AED Training

In cooperation with the YMCA of Columbia, Palmetto Health will offer Heartsaver CPR and AED courses at YMCA locations in February. This video-based, instructor-led course teaches adult, child and infant CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking. The course runs approximately four hours and is offered to the community at a discounted cost of $25. The training will be Saturday, Feb. 7, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at Northwest Family YMCA, 1501 Kennerly Rd., Irmo. To register and pay the $25 course fee, call 803-296-CARE (2273).

Feb. 10: Weight Loss Management Seminars

Feb. 11:  Heart Failure – A Survival Guide

Cardiologist Patrick J. McCann, M.D. will speak about the causes of heart failure plus the latest solutions for survival, including ventricular assist devices. Attend an upcoming free community event to learn more about your Healthcare Marketplace enrollment options. Community partners, assisting agencies and navigators will be on-site to help with re-enrollment.  You also will have the chance to enroll during the event.

CPR and BLS Classes:

American Heart Association CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) classes are offered weekly by the Palmetto Health/USC Simulation Center every Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Cost is $75. Heart Saver CPR classes are offered two Tuesday afternoons each month; cost is $50. All classes begin at 1 p.m. at 14 Medical Park, Suite 300, Palmetto Health Richland campus, and course materials and a certification card are included.
