PALMETTO CENTER FOR THE ARTS TO PRESENT AIDA

The Palmetto Center for the Arts Theatre Company at Richland Northeast High School will present the Tony-Award winning musical, AIDA, Thursday through Saturday, March 17-19 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, March 20th at 3:00 PM in the Richland District Two Auditorium, on the Richland Northeast campus. Tickets are $5.00 for students and $7.00 for adults and may be purchased at the door.
Written by Elton John and Tim Rice, the musical presents a dramatic triangle of love and intrigue, featuring Aida, a Nubian princess forced into captivity, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the Egyptian captain they both love. Based on Verdi’s opera of the same name, AIDA embraces the themes of star-crossed love, loyalty and betrayal and is enhanced by a thrilling musical score with exquisite ballads and soaring gospel and choral numbers.
The talented cast features Chloe Crawford and Jazmine Rivera double cast in the title role, with Lilly Coveney and Mary Grace Boyce also double cast as Amneris. Itai Almor takes on the role of Captain Radames. In supporting roles are Corin Wiggins as Zoser, Nicole Seibles as Nehebka, Justin Castro as the Pharaoh, and Darius Adamson as Amonasro, with Ajai Cave and Kristen Jacobs double cast as Mereb. Featured in the ensemble are Trey Weaver, Dylan Hayat, Jacob Wilkinson, Sarah Shtessel, Jala Bennett, Imani Parks-Williams, Marley Suber, Shatnee Thomas, Jiani Smalls, Rebekah Johnson, Jamie Collins, Catherine Kelley, Laura Pacheco, Margaret Greene, Ethena Lighty, Sierra McDaniel, Aya Rose, Tyra Brown-Wallace and Jerzy Maechtle, along with dancers Alyssa Stephens, Sarah Kate Coleman, Kayleigh Smith, Kendra Smith, Katelynn Wall, Joneshia Brown, and Amani Jamison.
The play is being presented in collaboration with the Richland Northeast Foundation, which will feature a “Dinner and the Show” event, Saturday, March 19th with “mocktails” at 5:30 pm, dinner at 6:00, followed by the performance of AIDA, at 7:30 pm. Tickets for the Foundation’s Dinner and Show may be purchased in the Main Office at Richland Northeast. Proceeds from the event will be used to provide grants for teachers and students at Richland Northeast High School.
AIDA is under the direction of Donna Wilson, with musical direction by Greg Boatwright and choreography by Nicole Czekalski. David Mitchell and Tony Fling are scene and lighting designers for the show.
