OVERTURE WALKER APPOINTED TO THE COMET BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Columbia, SC – The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (The COMET) announces the appointment, by Richland County, of Overture Walker to its Board of Directors.

Overture Walker represents District 8, which runs from the northern portion of Forest Acres through Arcadia Lakes and Northeast Richland as far north as Lake Carolina and Long Creek. Walker has 15 years of experience as a legal professional, having served as municipal court judge, city prosecutor and assistant city attorney for the City of Columbia, as well as assistant public defender for Richland County. He now serves as a small-business owner and founder of Stoney & Walker LLC, which has law offices in Columbia and Charleston.

Walker is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law and served as an intern for former Democratic Gov. Jim Hodges. He has been a resident of Richland County for more than 30 years and is active in the community, serving on the boards of the S.C. Appleseed Legal Justice Center and the Columbia Housing Development Corp.

Walker is married to Sharon DuPree Walker. They are the proud parents of a daughter who attends public school in Richland District Two.

The COMET transports approximately 2.8 million passenger trips a year on a fleet of more than 80 buses, vans and trolleys.
