COLUMBIA, SC – With nearly 400 guests in attendance, the 9th Annual Every Senior Counts luncheon raised more than $16,000 in donations and $65,000 in new and ongoing pledges for Senior Resources’ programs.

“We are grateful to BlueCross BlueShield of SC, whose generous sponsorship made it possible for us to host this event at no cost to our guests,” said Senior Resources Executive Director Pam Dukes. “And we are humbled by the response and generosity of those in attendance.”

Guests of the event were entertained by the Songbirds from the Bishop Avenue Wellness Center and by Jon Michaels, who performed his original song “Fannie,” which he wrote about his friendship with a Meals on Wheels client to whom he delivered meals. Community leader and philanthropist Charlotte Berry delivered a powerful keynote address on philanthropy, encouraging those in attendance to “bloom where you’re planted.” Several clients spoke of the importance of Senior Resources’ programs in their lives. And a video portrayed the work done by Senior Resources to empower seniors to remain healthy and independent. Production of the video was underwritten by Palmetto Health.

“The funds we raised at Every Senior Counts are essential to our programs,” Dukes said. “But we hope we also raised awareness of the issues seniors face, and our mission to help them overcome the challenges to daily independence.”

Other event sponsors included The State Media Company, WLTX TV-19, South State Bank, Bank of America, Colonial Life, First Choice VIP Care Plus, MiraVista LLC and NBSC.
