NBC’s Craig Melvin to MC Family Promise of the Midlands Gala

(COLUMBIA)— NBC Today Show news anchor Craig Melvin will be coming home in March to serve as master of ceremonies for a gala fundraiser to benefit Family Promise of the Midlands, a coalition of 30 Midlands churches who help families experiencing homelessness.

Night of Promise will be Saturday, March 23, at Stone River in West Columbia, just across the Gervais Street Bridge from downtown Columbia.

Melvin, a Columbia native and former anchor at WIS, has brought attention to the issue of homelessness through his reporting, including a primetime special earlier this year on MSNBC. Melvin agreed to emcee this year’s gala to help raise awareness of the organization’s specific focus on helping homeless families with children.

“We believe every child deserves a home, and this gala will help us raise the funds we need to keep families together and safe while they get back on their feet,” said Bonnie Montgomery, board chair.

The gala will feature hors d’oeuvres, an open beer and wine bar, music, dancing, and a silent auction, including vacations, custom-made jewelry, artwork, furniture, household supplies, and gift cards to a variety of local businesses.

Businesses and individuals are invited to become sponsors of the event. Table sponsorships are $1,000. Individual tickets are $85 per person. Sponsorship and ticket information is available via the organization’s website, www.familypromisemidlands.org.
