Midlands Technical College Launches Alumni Association

Midlands Technical College (MTC) is connecting alumni, students and community with its launch today of the college’s new Alumni Association. Any student who has graduated from MTC with an academic degree, diploma or certificate is eligible to join. Membership is free for a limited time.

The first member of the MTC Alumni Association is a Distinguished Graduate and new Midlands Technical College president, Dr. Ronald L. Rhames (MTC class of 1978). Midlands Technical College Office has alumni spanning 40 years spread throughout the Midlands, South Carolina and the United States.

“When students leave MTC they remain an important part of the MTC family,” said Rhames. “Current students, recent graduates and long-time graduates like me will all find that the Alumni Association was designed with them in mind. When people join the association, they showcase their pride in MTC, and stay connected to the MTC community with career resources, networking events and opportunities to build relationships with fellow alumni.”
MTC Alumni Association benefits include local and national shopping discounts, 10 percent discounts on most MTC Continuing Education and training classes, networking opportunities, 10 percent off Harbison Theatre tickets, full access to each of the five MTC Libraries, access to Counseling & Career Resources, and group travel excursions with other alumni. Members also will receive alumni information through email and invitations to special alumni-only events.

“This association is all about getting people involved and reacquainted with the college that inspired us to start and build our career paths,” said Joe Johnson (MTC Class of 1983), Chair of the Alumni Association and President and Chief Operating Officer at Palmetto GBA. “In addition to the tangible benefits of being a member, alumni can be proud to be part of a community that shares our success.”

Members are encouraged to participate actively in the Midlands Technical College community, to attend events, to volunteer, and to create new ways to stay connected to the College. The first official Alumni Association-sponsored event, the Jane Addams Award Gala, will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015. The gala honors South Carolina community members and organizations for their outstanding work in the area of human services. It is open to the public.

Alumni from throughout the college’s 40-year history can visit the association website alumni.MIDLANDSTECH.EDU where they can join for free. Members and future members can keep up with MTC Alumni Association news and events by joining the Association’s pages on Facebook or LinkedIn, or by following @MTCAlum on Twitter.
