The funds will be used to provide tuition assistance for unemployed or underemployed residents of Lexington and Richland counties to pursue QuickJobs training with Midlands Technical College.
“We appreciate the continued support from Bank of America that helps the college put people back to work,” said Jack Hoekstra, MTC Interim Associate Vice President of Advancement. “Bank of America is a valued partner in helping MTC prepare our students and our community to improve their lives through the educational opportunities the college provides.”
QuickJobs is a program designed to offer skills training that results in an industry-recognized credential. The program is designed to quickly meet the needs of participants and provide the training needed to move into employment. Currently there are more than 38 training programs, lasting from three weeks to 15 months. Programs have been developed for the areas of greatest need such as manufacturing, alternate energy and skilled trades; information technology and computers; healthcare; and more.
“Bank of America is a longtime supporter of Midlands Technical College and their efforts to help people receive access to essential training,” said Kim Wilkerson, South Carolina and Columbia market president, Bank of America. “Supporting programs like QuickJobs helps ensure that individuals and families in our community are connected with the education and skills needed to secure and retain jobs with livable wages.”
MTC’s QuickJobs program was created in 2007 in response to the growing challenge of filling today’s available jobs with skilled workers. As the changing workplace continues to impact the skills needed for high-growth, high-demand jobs, QuickJobs assists workers retool their skills for the new economy.
