Mayor Benjamin named NAN Public Servant of the Year
Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin’s leadership and commitment to service has once again received national recognition as he was named Public Servant of the Year by the National Action Network at that organization’s 5th annual Triumph Awards on June 2.
“This great honor stands as a testament not to me but to the great people of Columbia who have entrusted me with this opportunity and supported our vision for the future,” said Mayor Benjamin. “This is about recognizing all we have and can accomplish when we stand together as One Columbia and for that, if nothing else, I am truly thankful.”
In addition to Mayor Benjamin, this year’s NAN Triumph Awards recipients include PepsiCo Global Beverages Group’s Chief Marketing Officer Frank Cooper, American Ballet Theater soloist Misty Copeland, President of ESSENCE Communications, Inc. and People en Espanol Michelle Ebanks, KWL Enterprises Founder and CEO Kevin Liles, Sanford Rubenstein, Esq. of Rubenstein & Rynecki and President of Comcast Cable’s West Division Steve White.
Previous recipients include the likes of George Lucas, John Legend, Phylicia Rashad, Tyler Perry and Radio One, Inc. founder Cathy Hughes.
This is the latest in a series of high profile recognitions for Mayor Benjamin which include serving on the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Board of Trustees and twice being named to the The Root 100 list of nation’s most influential African-Americans (2011 and 2013).
