RALEIGH, N.C. – For 62 consecutive years, the Lewis Family of eastern North Carolina , now five generations deep, has gathered on the fourth weekend in June to come together as a family, reconnect, fellowship and reflect on their rich history. Their annual family reunion event is hosted each year by a different member and branch of the Lewis family tree.

This year, the reunion was hosted in Raleigh , North Carolina by the Rev. Dr. W.B. Lewis family. Relatives from South Carolina , North Carolina and across the country convened in Raleigh , N.C. for a weekend of activities that included a Friday night barbecue and fish fry, Saturday dinner and business meeting, and Sunday morning church service.

Lewis said: “My parents, Willie and Hazel Lewis, started this tradition and instilled in their children and grandchildren that God and family were a priority. They held the first reunion 62 years ago, and we’re going to keep it going.” In addition to hosting family members and friends, the Lewis Family In Reunion event honors its commitment to family, faith, tradition and education with contributions toward the Lewis Family In Reunion endowed scholarship at Shaw University . In 2008, the Lewis Family In Reunion was established as an official 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The group’s officers include: Rev. Dr. W.B. Lewis, President; Bishop Harvey Lewis Sr., Vice President; and Deacon Cleveland Lewis, Treasurer. There is also a board of directors, various committees, and a schedule of host families through the centennial anniversary in 2055.

Lewis, for more than 60 years of service to the Lewis Family, his community and church family—First Cosmopolitan Baptist Church—where he now serves as the pastor emeritus.
