Latta, SC Police Chief is Reinstated
Latta, SC-Officer Crystal Moore was sworn in again as the police chief of Latta, SC recently after she was fired by Mayor Earl Bullard back in April.
Hundreds of residents came together and rallied in front of the local town hall as they protested to rehire Moore as the police chief. According to www.wmbfnews.com, she was fired by the town mayor because of her sexuality which he deemed “questionable.” During her 20 plus years on the force, Moore has “never been written up and was shocked to see seven write-ups in one day.”
According to People Magazine, Moore said, ” All around the street were people cheering me on, wanting me back, and people that I had locked up were here saying, ‘You’ve locked me up, but you’ve done it with dignity and respect. You did your job and you did what you were supposed to do and I’m here to support you.’ It was amazing.”
Town Councilman Jarett Taylor said, “It’s never been about the fact that she’s gay,” he told PEOPLE. “We could care less that she’s gay. I think I can speak for the whole entire town, we don’t care that she’s gay. She gets out and does her job, she does her job well and she cares about the town, she cares about the people.”
Officer Moore has been with the Latta police since 1989.
