Kayla Shekia Bedenbaugh-Abraham : New, Young, and Uprising Entrepreneur

Recently, Shek Luxe Studio LLC held a ribbon cutting Grand Opening Celebration to introduce its clients and the community to her new venue!

This young entrepreneur charted her own course in the challenging world of beauty with the help of God, her mentors, the blessing of her pastor, Dr. Rev. Thurmond Bowens, Jr. of the Trinity Baptist Church and her own stride and determination. Her name is Kayla Shekia Bedenbaugh-Abraham, a 23 year old licensed Cosmetologist and Esthetician, a native of Columbia, SC and a graduate of Richland Northeast High School.

In May 2017, she became the owner and operator of Shek (pronounced “sheek”) Luxe Studio, LLC!  It all started in a small studio room in a building off Parklane Road and has now expanded, a year later, into a storefront building located at 503 Meeting Street, West Columbia, SC. not far from the Vista in downtown Columbia!  Shek Luxe Studio has a 5-star rating!  She has serviced over 500 clients to include waxing, facials, make-up and lash extensions! In the near future, she will also be providing brow tattooing.

Most of Kayla’s clients, of all races, consist of college students from all over the Midlands and North Carolina, business women, military women and “out-of-towners”.  She has transformed many lives through her business and women all along the East Coast and beyond are talking about Shek Luxe! Kayla has trained and certified more than 20 young ladies through her one-on-one and group classes entitled “Mastering the Art of Lash Extensions”, while always remembering that “you can only keep what you have by giving it away”!

Her mission is to be the face to many young, uprising entrepreneurs; providing them with the hope that nothing is impossible if you believe and put in the work!

Kayla not only works within her business, she has been a face in the community by helping to serve the homeless, in the past, at the coliseum 3 years in a row and volunteered her services at the Harvest Hope Food Bank. In 20?? And 20??, she participated in the Breast Cancer walks held at Findley Park, here in Columbia. Last year Kayla was invited to speak to the Cosmetology class at her old alma mater about her success as a young entrepreneur and this year she organized food and clothing drives through Shek Luxe LLC which was not a big success but she plans to continue these efforts.  The food collected was donated to Harvest Hope Food Bank and clothing was donated to the Hannah House.   One of her greatest desires is to become a Philanthropist!  In 2018, Kayla began working on establishing an organization that she hopes to launch in 2019 that will enlighten mothers all across the country!

This young entrepreneur decided to walk a path that many people, young and old, have dreamed of launching and turning their idea into a reality; building a real business of giving their dream a chance to happen and she had the guts to take that courageous step! And, if she keeps God first, stays focused, determined, innovative, and a face in our community, Shek Luxe will continue to grow into a brand that will be around for a long time!
