Hakeem Hicks Joins Millennium Magazine Staff
Hakeem Hicks has become an intern with the Millennium Magazine. He will be involved in all aspects of the publication with a focus on advertising sales, marketing, promotions and business development.
Hakeem Hicks is a third year college student majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Management. Hicks began his college career at ClemsonUniversity, but as of Fall 2014 he will be enrolled at University of South Carolina. He is scheduled to graduate in May 2016.
When asked what keeps him going on a daily basis, he a quotes author Kay Warren, “Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of my life; the quiet confidence that ultimately everything will be alright, and the determined choice to praise God in all things.” Hakeem cites his faith in the Lord as the biggest factor in not allowing depression, financial hardships, death or any other obstacle to deter him from moving onward and upward.
In 2011, Hakeem was named a Gates Millennium Scholar, a highly prestigious award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that pays the entire cost of the recipient’s college education through graduation including graduate school. At Clemson he served as the President of the school’s chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a member of the Black Student Union and as a member of the Student Activities Committee on the Student Government. These organizations all focus of providing service and empowerment to those in need.
There are two things are currently bringing new found joy and excitement to Hakeem’s life: becoming a Big with the Big Brother, Big Sister program and working as an intern with Millennium Magazine.
Hicks is a member of Bible Way Church of Atlas Road.
