GENERAL SURGEON ERIC GOURLEY, MD, FACS JOINS PROVIDENCE SURGICAL ASSOCIATES
COLUMBIA, SC – Providence Health is pleased to announce the addition of Eric Gourley, MD, FACS, to the Providence Surgical Associates team. Dr. Gourley is board-certified in General Surgery, and is a Fellow of the, American College of Surgeons (FACS), Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and American Society for Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery (ASMBS).
Dr. Gourley has extensive training in the latest laparoscopic surgery which offers quicker recovery. “I’m thrilled to bring additional minimally-invasive services to the Midlands so that this community has more access to convenient solutions to their healthcare needs,” says Dr. Gourley.
He has also held several medical leadership roles including including Chief of General Surgery Service and Chair of the Medical Advisory Board for the Central Texas Regional Advisory Board, as well as Chief of the Department of Surgery at previous facilities. He has academic experience, too, having served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery (USUHS) and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery (Texas A&M).
In addition, Dr. Eric Gourley is an accomplished and awarded veteran with an impressive list of military medical assignments and awards including an Iraq Stabilization Medal (Poland), Global War on Terrorism Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Service Medal, Overseas Reserve Service Medal, National Defense Service Medals, Army Commendation Medals, and Meritorious Service Medals to name a few.

Outside of the medical field, Dr. Gourley is a member of the Fightin’ Docs Rugby Club, the Order of the Vigilant Knights, and the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Dr. Gourley received his medical degree from the Medical Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and completed his General Surgery Residency and Surgical Internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center El Paso, TX.
