The Cooperative Develops Partnership with the Nurturing Center

Columbia, SC – Eau Claire Cooperative Health Centers, Inc. (ECCHC or Cooperative) is pleased to announce that it has developed a partnership to assume the business operations of the Nurturing Center, a Columbia-based family-focused, therapeutic treatment center for child abuse and neglect. The Nurturing Center will continue its normal operations without any delays or changes in services and staffing during the transitional period.

“This collaboration allows the Nurturing Center to continue its efforts to both prevent and provide comprehensive evidence-based treatment and counseling services to children of abuse and neglect. The Cooperative is known for an innovative spirit that embraces growth opportunities and is fully committed to developing mutually beneficial relationships that focus on the integration of primary and behavioral health services. We are in the business of fostering relationships that focus on prevention, holistic health care, and patient empowerment. This partnership builds upon our mission of and commitment to providing comprehensive, high quality compassionate medical care in the spirit of the Good Samaritan,” says Dr. Stuart A. Hamilton, MD, Chief Executive Officer of ECCHC.

“The Nurturing Center is truly honored to become a part of Eau Claire Cooperative Health Centers. This partnership will help improve the array of services we are able to offer the 400 children and families we serve each year through our programs. It has long been our desire to incorporate primary health care into the nationally accredited therapeutic services we have provided for the past 25 years. We believe that with this overlay of services, we can have a lasting impact and help families heal,” states Kristina A. Pickens, Executive Director of The Nurturing Center.

ECCHC, Inc. was founded in 1981 and was organized as a private, non-profit corporation on December 14, 1992. ECCHC provides comprehensive primary care, dental, and behavioral health services to nearly 50,000 unduplicated patients in rural and urban geographies within four counties in the Midlands of South Carolina.

The mission of the Nurturing Center, operating since 1989, is to nurture trusting, caring relationships between adults and children in a five county service area in South Carolina. Program services include individual and group therapy, play therapy, parenting classes, children’s therapeutic classrooms and curriculum, parent-child interaction, lunch and transportation. The center also operates a Teen Parenting Program in collaboration with local high schools in Richland One and Lexington Two School Districts.
