District Five names new principal of Irmo Middle School

IRMO – Lexington-Richland School District Five has named longtime administrator Danielle Major-Murphy the new principal of Irmo Middle School.

Major-Murphy currently serves as principal of the Academy For Success. She also served as assistant principal at Irmo Middle School from July 2014 to July 2017 and an assistant principal at Dutch Fork Middle from July 2017 to July 2019. Major-Murphy replaces Cassy Paschal, who applied for and was selected as the new principal of the district’s new elementary school, which is slated to open in the fall of 2021.

“The Irmo community is home to me. I live there and I have served as an assistant principal at Irmo Middle School, so I am honored and excited to serve in this new role in the community I love,” Major-Murphy said. “I think we all look forward to the day we can welcome our students and staff back to schools, and I look forward to continuing the great work that has been done at Irmo Middle School with students, parents, staff and the community.”

Major-Murphy has been an educator for nearly 20 years, starting her career in School District Five as a business education teacher at Chapin High School.  She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina (UofSC).  Major-Murphy also earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from UofSC in 2010 and an education specialist degree from Walden University in 2011.

“Ms. Major-Murphy is well-known and well-respected in the District Five community,” said Superintendent Dr. Christina Melton. “From her role as an assistant principal at two middle schools in our district to her service as principal at the Academy For Success, she has proven to be a leader who leads by example and with care. We look forward to her continued service and to Irmo Middle School’s continued success with Ms. Major-Murphy as principal.”
