Dea. William Bethea appointed Vice Chairman of the Deacon Board, Brookland Baptist Church

Rev. Charles B. Jackson, Sr., Pastor, Brookland Baptist Church, introduced Dea. William Bethea as the newly-appointed Vice Chairman of the Deacon Board at the church budget meeting. Bethea’s appointment fills the vacancy of Dea. Prentiss Percell, who stepped down from the Deacon Board and chair of the Christian Education Department.

Dea. William Bethea is the son of the late Floyd H. Bethea Sr., and Alma Mace Bethea. Born in Florence, South Carolina, and raised in Latta, South Carolina, Bethea is the youngest of 10 children. Graduating from Latimer High School in Dillon County,

Bethea earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Voorhees College. He further studied public administration at the University of South Carolina.

Bethea has been married to the former Alice Middleton of St. Stephen, South Carolina, for more than 39 years and 3 children have been born from their union: William Jr., Allison Michelle, and Michael A., who just graduated from Tennessee State University last month.

Bethea is employed as an Operations Manager in Environmental Services at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.

William and Alice Bethea joined Brookland Baptist Church in 1993, in November 1998, he was ordained a deacon.

William Bethea has served the Brookland Baptist Church as past president of the Senior Usher ministry, member of the Brookland Brotherhood, Budget Committee member, a member or teacher of the adult Sunday school class, past co-chair of the Men’s Day committee in 1996 and 2007, and
co-chair of the Community Resource Center.

William Bethea is a member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge #86, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Bethea says “I am very humbled and honored to have been asked and appointed to the position of Vice-Chairman of Deacons. I will do my best to serve this position with help of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and doing God’s will as our Father to the people of Brookland Baptist Church along with our other fellow deacons. I praise and thank God for this opportunity and will serve this position with the upmost respect and honor.”
