The Meeting Place Church to Revitalize the Community with 20-Acre, 200,000 Square Foot Complex

Columbia, SC – The Meeting Place Church of Greater Columbia is holding an Easter Egg Hunt and free family fun day for the public on Saturday, April 15 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. to celebrate the grand opening of its new location and to announce plans for its 20+ acre property and the congregation’s vision to revitalize the surrounding community. Located at 201 Columbia Mall Blvd, on the hill across from the Columbia Place Mall, the goal of the church is to be a meeting place for all people from all backgrounds while also serving as a catalyst for economic growth in the area.

“Everyone was invited to join us for a free, fun-filled afternoon of food, fitness, family-friendly activities, and music,” said Bishop Eric J. Freeman, pastor and founder of The Meeting Place Church of Greater Columbia. “This was an opportunity for us to introduce ourselves to the community so they become aware that we are a resource for everyone regardless of the age, race, gender or other stereotypical barriers that tend to divide us.”

Kicking off the afternoon was the Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 2-12. Zumba classes, face painting, bingo, health screenings, bounce houses, music and more was offered throughout the afternoon. Hotdogs, chips, shaved ice and popcorn were served. The day wraped up with free concert by national Gospel artist Jonathan Nelson starting at 5:00 p.m.

“I hope visitors were able to take the time on Saturday to tour our campus and learn about our economic revitalization plans,” said Bishop Freeman. “We are creating a village of encouragement by breathing new life into this community. We are in the process of completing a Youth Empowerment Zone to help guide our children through an ever-changing world. Also, by the end of year we will open a small business incubator, a 24-hour prayer center, and a world-class health and wellness facility.”

Plans include a 24-hour child care facility, a 35,000-square foot conference center, an eight-cinema family movie theater, a professional counseling center and a full-service mortuary.

In addition to the celebration on Saturday, The Meeting Place Church held Easter services at 8:00 a.m and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 16. Following the service there was a brief dedication followed by a light reception. The public is encouraged to attend.
