Columbia Chamber Opens New Headquarters
Move to Main Street District planned for early 2020.
Columbia, SC – For over 30 years, the Columbia Chamber has conducted business from 930 Richland Street which was a structure originally built in 1969 as the headquarters for the New South Life Insurance Company. In early 2020, the Chamber will move to the thriving Main Street district which better positions the Chamber to fulfill its mission of creating and promoting an environment where businesses can flourish.
“The Chamber is at a pivotal moment now and needs to look like the Chamber of tomorrow,” said Kim Wilkerson, Chamber Board of Directors Chair. “Early in 2020, the Chamber will be relocating to the second block of uptown Columbia at the corner of Sumter and Lady Streets, literally in the epicenter of business,” she continued.
“Having the Columbia Chamber move into our lively and dynamic, historic commercial corridor is an exciting development,” said Mayor Steve Benjamin. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Chamber in providing a healthy business friendly environment for our citizens.”
“We are very pleased to learn that the Columbia Chamber is moving to the Main Street District! The new location will put the increasingly vibrant Chamber in the heart of the increasing vibrant center of the City, making it more accessible to its members, not only by car, but by walking, biking or Public Transit,” said Matt Kennell, President and CEO, City Center Partnership. “We could not be more pleased and look forward to working with our partners at the Columbia Chamber,” he continued.
The new office location, designed by the Boudreaux Group, will be located at 1225 Lady Street. The move, which places the Chamber within one block of its original 1902 office, is expected to be completed by February 2020. This move enables the Chamber to further its mission of providing the unified voice to our regional business and continue our promise to Connect, Engage, Impact, and Transform, facilitating a prosperous business climate for all.
