Claflin University honored as ‘HBCU of the Year’
Pictured; Students from Claflin University have raised $100,000 themselves in support of the institution’s $96.4 million capital campaign.
Orangeburg, SC- Claflin University has been recognized as the year’s best historically black college in the country by HBCU Digest, a daily news blog.
The private liberal arts college in Orangeburg was named “HBCU of the Year” at the annual AARP HBCU awards ceremony at Hampton University recently. Claflin also received the award for best alumni association.
“We believe Claflin University has demonstrated that it is a leader in higher education, research and preparing our students to become globally engaged visionaries,” said Claflin President Henry N. Tisdale in a statement. “We greatly appreciate HBCU Digest’s recognition of Claflin University and our alumni for these noteworthy awards. We are fortunate to have a team that is cohesive and passionate about achieving success and keyed on excellence.”
In the past two years, Claflin University has received accolades from numerous national publications, including U.S. News and World Report, Forbes.com and Washington Monthly, which in 2014, ranked Claflin as the top liberal arts college in South Carolina and best HBCU in the nation.
