The City to Host Eighth Annual National Night Out Kickoff Event

The City of Columbia will host its eighth annual National Night Out Kickoff event on
Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 4-9 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention
Center, located at 1101 Lincoln Street.

This year’s kickoff event will include safety demonstrations, kid-friendly activities and
free giveaways. Additionally, there will be live entertainment featuring The Blythewood
Jazz Orchestra, a 22 piece band; food vendors including Oprah Winfrey Network’s 2 Fat
2 Fly; and community partner exhibitors.

National Night Out is a yearlong community-building campaign designed to: (1)
heighten crime prevention awareness, (2) generate support for, and participation in,
local anticrime programs, (3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community
partnerships, and (4) send a message to criminals letting them know that
neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

On Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, participating Columbia neighborhoods will host their own
National Night Out activities. Additional details will be announced regarding
neighborhood activities.

For more information, please contact the Columbia Police Department at 803-545-3500,
