Columbia, SC – As announced previously, our priority is assisting all the residents who were displaced from Allen Benedict Court on Friday, January 18, 2019. Residents will be relocated from their various hotels into permanent housing over the next several weeks.
Over the last 14 days we have received a tremendous amount of support from throughout the Midlands regarding services and donations. We are extremely grateful for all of the churches, business and organizations that have come together to serve the residents of Allen Benedict Court and to support the Columbia Housing Authority (CHA).
Dozens of churches, businesses and individuals have been donating money, time, and other essential items directly to the CHA to be used to house and clothe all residents. Additionally, people have been providing food, services, toiletries and other items directly to residents onsite at various temporary housing locations.
Recently, Pastor Darrell Jackson of the Bible Way Church of Atlas Road, encouraged all churches to do whatever they could for the Columbia Housing Authority, and above all, to pray for Executive Director Gilbert Walker, the staff and the families involved. “This was a service opportunity that we could not ignore. We are a community, and when one member of this community is in need, then we are all in need,” said Darrell Jackson, Senior Pastor of the Bible Way Church of Atlas Road.
