The National Sheriffs’ Association recently awarded certification to Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Maj. Kevin Jones as a certified jail executive. Jones is the commander of the agency’s Detention and Judicial Services Bureau, which includes the Lexington County Detention Center.

Lexington County Sheriff Lewis McCarty said certification as a certified jail executive shows that Jones, 48, demonstrated expertise and knowledge in areas of case law, legal liability, personnel management, planning and jail operations. The certification required Jones to show that he completed 40 hours of training in the aforementioned areas.

Jones was appointed to serve as a correctional officer at the Detention Center on November 13, 1995 and worked up his way up the ranks to serve in his current position, McCarty said.

“Your completion of the eligibility requirements shows your commitment to and achievement in the field,” National Sheriffs’ Association Executive Director Sheriff Aaron D. Kennard (Ret.) wrote in a letter to Jones.
