Carver-Lyon Elementary host Cocky’s Reading Express for National Business Leader

Carver-Lyon Elementary School and Cocky’s Reading Express, the University of  South Carolina’s elementary literary program, got some national attention from a special guest on September 15.

Paulette Brown, the President of the American Bar Association, visited Carver-Lyon to personally see how the program works. The S.C. Young Lawyers Association won the American Bar Association’s National Service Award for its volunteer work with Cocky’s Reading Express. During her visit to the University, Brown specifically requested an opportunity to see the program in action.

Cocky’s Reading Express allows USC students and mascot Cocky to travel the state promoting strong reading skills and a love for reading to elementary school students. Cocky will read to students, give them books to take home and teach them the importance of life-long reading.
