CAE’s Chappelle Broome to Serve on the STSM Board
(West Columbia, SC.) Chappelle Broome, Director of Human Resources and Diversity, at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, has been selected to serve on the Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM) 2018-2019 Board of Directors. STSM advocates for, and supports survivors of sexual assault and abuse and educates the community to identify and prevent sexual violence.
The vision of STSM is to have healthy survivors, thriving in a community free of sexual violence. Sexual violence is an experience shared by 1 in 4 women and 1 in 33 men. It is impossible to not know someone who has been impacted by sexual violence, even if you have not been told. One of STSM’s signature events is “Walk a Mile in Their Shoes” where walkers put on high heels and walk a mile for this great cause.
“I have been a supporter of the dedicated work of STSM and its staff for many years. For the past five years, my family and friends have had a team with the males in our family putting on those high heels (and a few opting for the low heels), but actively engaging in the fundraising and the fun and mission of this walk. Joining the board gives me the opportunity serve with a dynamic group, who has a common vision that one day the community will be free of sexual violence and who also share the common mindset that “anything less than yes means no.” I am truly humble to become a board member and I hope to make a real difference.” said Broome.
Chappelle began her career at the Airport in 1998 and worked in purchasing and administration prior to Human Resources. In 2010 she became the airport’s Director of Human Resources and Diversity. In addition to her work with STSM, she is also a board member with Midlands Education Business Alliance (MEBA), a member of the Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) Human Resources Steering Group; the ACI-NA Business Diversity Steering Group; the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC); the National and Local Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and is a past President of the Cayce West Columbia Rotary. Broome was recently selected as one of 22 Women of Influence in the Midlands for 2018.
