BMW Manufacturing Announces Management Change

Announces New Vice President for Total Vehicle, Quality Management and Engineering.

Spartanburg, S.C. – BMW Manufacturing announced today that Andreas Guecker has been named the new Vice President for Total Vehicle, Quality Management and Engineering. He succeeds Robert Kuessel who has returned to Germany as Vice President of Assembly at the company’s plant in Dingolfing.

This appointment marks a return for Guecker to BMW’s only North American plant. From 2008 – 2012, he managed the center of competence for analysis and validation of electrics and electronics at the Spartanburg factory.

Since Guecker joined BMW in 1999, he has worked in various aspects of verification, testing and planning of BMW Group’s electrics and electronics systems. As a manager for the company’s manufacturing concepts, Guecker was responsible for the model launch activities for the BMW 1 Series and 3 Series. He returns to South Carolina from Munich, where he managed the Electrical/Electronical process planning, commissioning and testing of all BMW Group vehicles worldwide.

Guecker’s early career included a position as a research associate with Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation in Stuttgart, Germany. He received a Masters Degree from Technical University of Darmstadt, where he majored in Electrical Engineering. – 2 –

BMW’s plant in Spartanburg currently produces over 1,100 vehicles each day and is the exclusive exporter of X3 and X5 Sports Activity Vehicles and the X6 Sports Activity Coupe to over 140 countries around the world. In 2014, the plant will increase capacity to 350,000 vehicles annually and increase its workforce to more than 8,000 jobs on site.

The plant originally began vehicle production in 1994 and will celebrate 20 years of production in 2014.
