Every part of our existence contains certain basic components. A car has an engine and wheels, a building has a foundation and walls, a lake has water and a basin to hold it. All of life can be considered by thinking of basic components.
Here, as we have just celebrated our independence with many fireworks and parades, it is helpful for us to consider the basics. From the Declaration of Independence we excerpt these few words…”We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
History of the United States cannot be removed from the founding proclamation. We are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights. These privileges did not come from the British, or the colonists or even the newly designed government. They came from our Creator, our God. Moreover they are given to all humans, not matter ethnic background.
Today we are confronted with efforts to treat our history with honesty and integrity. The majority in the past is not of the same mind as the majority of the present. All ethnicities and all people of varying skin color are created and endowed with equal rights. The Creator wants us to determine to show love and kindness to each other. When there is injustice, we seek to restore a more just society. Where wrongs can be corrected we correct. Where wrongs are unchangeable we move forward on a better path sorrowing over the wrong of the past but looking to a better future.
The Bible says it like this. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
