Company hired more than 26,000 nationwide this year. More than 50 jobs currently available in state.

COLUMBIA, SC, – AT&T has announced that it filled more than 180 new jobs in South Carolina in 2014, part of more than 300 jobs filled statewide this year. Further, the company has hired more than 26,000 people across the U.S. during that same period.

In addition to those jobs already filled in South Carolina this year, AT&T currently has more than 50 openings available across the state. Of those positions, more than 40 are newly-created jobs in areas including retail and technicians.

“AT&T is a great South Carolina company and we couldn’t be more excited that they continue to find success in our state,” said Governor Nikki R. Haley. “They have been doing business in South Carolina for more than 135 years and currently employ 2,000 of our citizens.  We look forward to seeing that number grow for many years to come.”

“Each new job not only opens the door to a better future for the employee, but it strengthens the community and economy of our state,” said Senate President Pro Tempore Hugh K. Leatherman. “In an economy where companies have many choices for where to invest dollars and locate employees, this is good news for South Carolina.”

“Advanced communications networks, operated by skilled workers, are vital for economic growth,” said House Speaker Jay Lucas. “I’m thrilled for what these new jobs mean for South Carolina families and for our state’s economy. The work these South Carolinians are doing will lead to even more job growth by helping other businesses innovate and expand. The General Assembly is committed to working with major employers in our state like AT&T to make sure South Carolina remains a place where new technologies and industry can thrive.”

Much of the hiring has been spurred by AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP). Project VIP is an investment plan to expand and enhance IP broadband networks to support customer’s growing desire for mobile, ultra-fast and reliable access to everything on the Internet, particularly video.

“As our lives continue to be impacted by innovations that range from connected cars to a connected home, and from wearable technology to mobile Internet, AT&T understands that investing in infrastructure is just part of helping South Carolinians benefit fully from the opportunities powered by today’s technologies,” said Pamela Lackey, President of AT&T South Carolina. “We also need employees who understand the exciting potential of these technologies and who are committed to providing the outstanding service customers expect and deserve. We appreciate all the hard work by Governor Haley, Speaker Lucas, Senator Leatherman, and all the members of the General Assembly in building and maintaining a policy environment that welcomes businesses that want to invest and create job opportunities in our state.”

AT&T currently employs more than 2,000 employees throughout South Carolina and consistently hires new talent. More information on AT&T’s current South Carolina jobs openings can be found here. Military veterans can learn more about careers at AT&T atatt.jobs/doing-great-things/military.
