The Seventh Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church will participate in the National Covid-19 Day of Remembrance on March 21 and will partner with Walgreens to administer Covid-19 vaccinations for eligible groups.
The AME Church will remember our parishioners who lost their lives to COVID-19 as we seek to provide healing to our community on the road to recovery,” said Bishop Samuel L. Green Sr., Presiding Bishop of the Seventh Episcopal District. “As a faith community, we will provide education to our members regarding vaccines and do our part to increase access to vaccination throughout South Carolina with our churches serving as vaccination sites.”
March 21 is the one-year anniversary of when the AME Church suspended in-person gatherings in 2020 to protect communities from Covid-19.
The Seventh Episcopal District will partner with Walgreens for Covid-19 vaccinations on Friday, March 19 and Thursday, March 25 in Columbia and Mt. Pleasant, respectively. Currently, anyone in Phase 1A and Phase 1B are eligible to receive the vaccine.
The vaccine is the One Shot Janssen Vaccine. No registration is required but those wishing to be vaccinated MUST complete the Vaccine Administration Record form, which can be completed in advance or on-site.

In AME Churches across South Carolina, the Seventh District will honor the lives of the more than 63,000 Black Americans who have died from the virus nationwide on Sunday, March 21. Due to factors related to structural racism, Black Americans are twice as likely than white Americans to die from COVID-19, representing nearly 16% of COVID-19 deaths despite being 12% of the U.S. population. Congregations will also be educated on vaccination as the nation seeks to end this virus.
